Pies Raid Ireland Again And I’m Already Buzzing
Collingwood has gone back to the well in Ireland and pulled out another gun. The Pies have signed a talented young Gaelic footballer as a rookie, and if you know anything about this club’s history with Irish recruits, you’ll understand why I’m grinning ear to ear writing this.
Carn the Pies. This is the kind of move that gets me out of bed in the morning.
Why Ireland, Why Now?
Look, Collingwood haven’t exactly been shy about raiding the Emerald Isle before. We’ve seen it work a treat with other clubs too, blokes who could barely kick a torp when they arrived turning into genuine AFL talents within a couple of seasons. The athleticism is undeniable. The courage under the high ball, the leg speed, the hand-eye coordination from years of Gaelic football and hurling – it translates.
So why wouldn’t we keep going back? If theres a pool of elite athletes overseas who just need some polishing in our game, you’d be mad not to have scouts over there. Other clubs do it. We should be doing it better than anyone, and it looks like the recruiting department is finally taking it seriously again.
